Humans often don't really think about bees much. We often assume they are just born, they work, then they die, living relatively uneventful lives. In his first, hilarious, tongue-in-cheek literary offering, we are offered a unique glimpse into the world of bees and The Bee Society by an odd little bee named Georgie.
In his narrative, "my life as a bee", Georgie reveals the inside story of what it's like to bee a honeybee. As a graduate of London's prestigious Bee Academy, Class of '87, where he studied Inter-Species Communication, Georgie guides adults and children alike through a most unexpected journey into the life and times of the Hive. We not only get the chance to meet his friends and to find out that bees play as much as they work, but he tries his best to send the message that Bees and Humans may not bee all that different from one another, after all. And what's his message to Humans? Let's all be nice and just try to coexist as happily as we can. We need one another, after all.
Richly illustrated and told in a voice that is certain to lighten anyone's day, Georgie's book offers readers an opportunity to look at the world with fresh eyes, offering a brief and humourous escape from what is too often the drudgery of day-to-day Human existence. Georgie not only lets us know that Human Society and The Bee Society may not be as different from one another as we may believe. He lets us know that Humans aren't the only creatures on Earth who grapple with interpersonal relationships or who have to deal with earning a living, reminding us that all work and no play can make us "dull bees".
Destined to beecome a classic appealing to young and old readers alike, "my life as a bee" introduces us to The Bee Society and sets the stage for Georgie's future writings. We are left craving more of his musings and eagerly anticipating more of his "unbeelievable" tales.

This book details many different aspects of Georgie Bee's life. This first book in the series lets us get to know Georgie and some of his friends from the hive. This book is highly entertaining. Some of the parts that I enjoyed the most were the "Dear Georgie" letters, the introduction of his hive friends, and the georgie cam. There is a combination of computer generated art and hand illustrated portions. The majority are hand illustrated and are fun and colorful. I particularly liked that you get to see what his hive friends look like. Georgie tells the reader all about "his life as a bee," including the various seasons (from his point of view), some of his hobbies, and what his home is like. Another fun thing about this book is that it leaves room for new and exciting stories without having giant gaps in the story. The book indicates that there are more books to come, and they all deal with some of the things that Georgie mentions in this first book. It's interesting to hear things from a bee's point of view. Although Georgie can be somewhat scatterbrained and almost optimistic to a fault, I don't feel that it is because he's an ignorant little bee-- he just views the world differently (as he should... because he's a bee)and in the end, he is a very well-intentioned little bee. It's fun to view the world through a new lens! The book is aimed at a wide audience, however, certain elements may go over young children's heads. I would recommend this book for teens and up.

Perfect for my Christmas list.....Georgies world is non-stop entertainment and full of laughs, his adventures get him in a lot of trouble, but, thanks to his endearing friends,he always makes it an adventure.....This is a 'burst out, laughing out loud" story.I love this book........
Not really sure who this is intended for. I received a review copy through netgalley and it was listed under graphic novels but it is not a graphic novel. Georgie Bee is a humorous, comic weblog [...]but not a comicstrip and this book is in a picture book format. The humour is clean and suitable for all ages but it's a little mature for younger readers with talk of psychiatrists, wormholes and for example, the lawyer bee is named S.O. Bee. This is not my type of humour. It annoyed me a bit with the use of words like "beelieve", "beecause", "beefore", etc. It was okay, but not my thing. I do like the art though and Rex Morriss, the artist's real name, has a fun, cute, comic style.
